The ‘honesty box’ system of paying for water was set up in 2012, and while it seems like a lovely idea, you can’t help but wonder if everyone is throwing in the €1 like they should.

This may be surprising, but most people actually do cough up.

According to statistics from Dublin Airport, 92% of passengers pay for the water, and the 8% who don’t face the judgement of all the people who witness them taking it:

If you, like some of the people above, are wondering what the motivation for not paying would be – well, for some it’s a matter of principle.

Going off what people have revealed on Twitter, it appears that others who take the bottles don’t happen to have a euro on them at the time, while still more simply enjoy the buzz of ‘stealing’ it. (We all have to get our thrills somehow.)

So here’s the question: Do you pay for the ‘plane water’?
